ice time

it's sleeting out and not supposed to let up until tomorrow, so we have closed the clinic today and i am enjoying a nice afternoon at home cuddled up with my computer and a nice cup of hot chocolate. st. louis has decided to partake in a winter filled with snow, ice and very cold temperatures, but my vote is in for an early spring. tiffany, heather and i had fun the past week housesitting for a couple that lives quite close to us. they have a small dog, millie, who was so cute and affectionate and loved snuggling. i was ready for some dog love, but she also turned out to be quite a handful and had me rethinking how much i want a dog in the future... it seems so much has happened since the last time i wrote on my blog, which does have me re-thinking keeping this thing up. Our offical vs unit has decreased by one and now tiffany and i are the last vsers here in st. louis. much to our approval heather has decided to stay in st. louis and work and so we did not have to say goodbye to her on her last day of vs last week. i think cities that are not heavily mennonite populated, and have a vs unit are lucky to be able to drawn in new attenders through vsers that decide to stick around in the city. the latest thoughts on my mind have been of sticking it out in st. louis a bit longer, past the completion of my term in august. i have appreciated the community here in st. louis and don't know that i am ready to leave the foundation i have begun to build. i am continuously reminded of how much good work needs to be done in st. louis as i am surrounded by the impoverished, and read about the violence, poverty and neglect in the paper and around town routinely. i guess when you become familiar with any community you begin to see the dire need of your neighbors, and want to help in anyway possible, which in turn pulls you in and makes you want to stay.
